Who Holds My Hand?

Note:  As I said at the end of Monday’s post, this was the final Listening on the Journey… post I will ever be able to read to my mom. She died September 4th. When I concluded reading the following, she thanked me for writing uplifting words and said they had really encouraged her.

I enjoyed a wonderful Thai lunch a few days ago with three women who are longtime friends. As we caught up, our conversation often turned to challenges common to folks navigating our stage of life.

One friend is supporting her husband who’s dealing with severe health issues. She explained how a verse of Scripture encourages and strengthens her every day. I recognized the passage because it was one that also helped me during a difficult season.

My friend used a different translation, but when I revisited Isaiah 41:12 later that day, I checked out a variety of versions[i]. The Passion Translation resonated especially:

Do not yield to fear, for I am always near.
Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God.
I will infuse you with my strength
and help you in every situation.
I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.’ Isaiah 41:12 (TPT)

Do you find yourself in one of those frightening or unsettling times?

·      Coming to grips with a dreaded diagnosis?

·      Struggling with difficult relationships?

·      Fearful about the future?

·      Angry about current culture and events?

·      Trying to figure out wise next steps?

·      Questioning whether God hears your prayers? Whether God cares?

If so, I am praying these ancient words will provide you with comfort, courage, or perhaps confirmation of what God has already been saying to your spirit.

Thank you, Lord, for holding us firmly with Your victorious right hand, for the assurance despite fear, frustration, failure, or faint heart, you will never loosen your firm grasp. Thank you especially for holding my mother’s hand firmly as she transitioned from her tired earthly body to a healthy heavenly version!

Blessings on your Journey…
