Venice – Part 2

Prior to our arrival in Venice, I decided to schedule a six and one-half hour walking tour. In retrospect, I realize we did not need to take such a long tour since much of the marvelous city of canals, bridges, and vivid sites can be explored on one’s own. I hope these photos and brief comments will help you capture a bit of Venice’s charm.

Colorful glass used in decorative items such as these ornaments is unique to the Venetian island of Murano. I purchased a small Murano glass plate on which I set my vitamins each morning. It is a pleasant reminder of the two days we spent in Venice.  Our lengthy walking tour began with an early morning visit to the outdoor public market. An exception to wheeled vehicles are large carts used to transport food goods from ships to the bustling market.

The array of produce and seafood was quite impressive. This fishmonger looks unimpressed with the early-morning crowd of tourists.

Europeans do love their sweets, and oh, how truly delicious they are!!  Sometimes a macaron was served atop gelato. Yum, Yum!

I love street lamps and thought these were about as elegant as a streetlamp can get!

Napoleon called Piazza San Marco “the world’s most beautiful drawing room.” The huge square is home of St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doges Palace, and the Campanile clock tower.

What would a trip to Venice be without taking a gondola ride? One was included in our guided tour. If we ever visit again, we will wait until evening and find a friendly gondolier working from a quiet neighborhood canal rather than the tourist center.

Wherever life takes you today, I pray you will discover beauty and be filled with peace!
