Resentment and Blessing
Harboring resentment may best be described in 1 Corinthians 13, the “Love Chapter:”
Love … keeps no record of wrongs.
(See 1 Corinthians 13:4-5)
I confess that I am good at keeping a “record of wrongs” if I am not conscious and cautious! Several years ago, I asked God to help me, believing this behavior is not becoming to one who desires to love more like Jesus.
Although it has taken years of practice, I TRY (still a work in progress!) to “bless” rather than “curse” those I dislike, disagree with, or feel resentful toward. A few steps help:
Accept resentment as a gift, revealing pain I may not realize lurks in my heart.
Confess and acknowledge feelings to God and then, accept love and forgiveness.
Remember Jesus’ reactions. He showed no resentment even to those who unjustly executed him. Instead, he willingly carried my sins and shame on the cross.
Pray, “Jesus, HELP ME!”
My favorite blessing is the Mosaic Priestly Blessing found in Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV):
“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
The Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
I extend this blessing to you today!
