Evening Walk Reflections

My husband, Ron, and I had several vacation getaways planned for 2020, but a ‘bug’ called Coronavirus and its nasty resulting disease, COVID-19, altered plans. Many reading these words have probably had the same experience.

One benefit of staying close to home has been taking day trips or treks in areas within driving distance.

We’ve enjoyed recent walks along different segments of The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, 73-miles of paved trails through Idaho’s scenic Panhandle. The Trail follows the former Union Pacific Railroad, which was abandoned in 1991.

A few evenings ago, we entered the Trailhead around Medimont. It was a beautiful summer evening. During our three-mile walk, we saw only one other person.

Photos in today’s post are from that walk. I hope you’ll enjoy the scenery, some of my favorite scriptures (all from Amplified Bible, Classic Edition), and contemplations.

He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake. (Psalms 23:3)

He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake. (Psalms 23:3)

It was one of those sleepless nights. When that is the case, I meditate on Psalms 23, which I memorized as a little girl. The ancient, comforting words usually lull me back to sleep.

That night, it felt like God placed a strong emphasis on verse 3. I didn’t realize my spiritual journey was about to take an unexpected turn. When questions have arisen about the path I’m on, my thoughts always return to that night. Any doubt God is leading me in the right path and that my journey will bring glory to His name disappears at the recollection.

The simple splendor of wildflowers reminds me of when Jesus spoke to his disciples about anxiety, saying:

Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither [wearily] toil nor spin nor weave; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory (his splendor and magnificence) was not arrayed like one of these. (Luke 12:27)

I was fascinated by the perfect V-shape the reflection of this broken branch created in the river.

The reflection of clouds in the marshy water was stunning. I once thought God was rather harsh, but I always knew Jesus loved me.

A verse in Colossians assured me Jesus was the accurate reflection of God.

[Now] He is the exact likeness of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible]; He is the Firstborn of all creation. (Colossians 14:15)

Shortly before his death, Jesus’ disciple Philipp asked Jesus to show them the Father [God]. Even those who walked closest to Jesus found distinguishing between him and God to be confusing. Here’s how Jesus answered Philipp:

Jesus replied, Have I been with all of you for so long a time, and do you not recognize and know Me yet, Philip? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father… (John 14:9)

Sometimes, I feel confused by many divergent voices speaking and teaching about God. When that’s the case, I often return to the Gospels to observe how Jesus spoke and related to all sorts of people and circumstances.

Even though the question, “What would Jesus do?” may have been used excessively and over-commercialized, it seems like it’s a legitimate query to consider when questions of God arise.

Wherever you are in your journey of faith, I’m asking God to bless you…

Blessings on your journey…
